My note inside the gate folder sleeve suggests that I bought this double album when I was about 18 – a time when I’d buy an album, hurry home on the bus with it and then play it twice in my bedroom before coming to a view as to its worth! Oh the luxury of time – I guess there was very little else to do. It’s a great album – much more than a Greatest Hits compilation, although it does have Space Cowboy and a couple of the well known SMB songs.
I think it’s much more a space blues concept album with a cohesive blend of the songs from SMB’s first 5 albums. Motherless Children and My Dark Hour are stand-outs and Kow Kow (Calculator) a surreal piece of Flaming Lips space oddity.
